Artificial Light at Night, Higher Brain Functions and Associated Neuronal Changes: An Avian Perspective

چکیده

In recent times, there has been an unprecedented increase in usage of electrical lightning. This led to artificial light at night (ALAN), and it suggested as a source environmental pollution. ALAN exposure reported be associated with disruption daily rhythms serious health consequences, such immune, metabolic, cognitive dysfunctions both birds mammals. Given the worldwide pervasiveness ALAN, this research topic is also important from ecological perspective. birds, timings appropriate temporal niches are for fitness survival. Daily wide array functions regulated by circadian clock(s) endogenous oscillators present body. There accumulating evidence that disrupts clock-regulated suppresses melatonin sleep birds. Circadian clock, melatonin, regulate avian performance. However, limited on topic, most insights adverse effects behavioural studies. Nevertheless, these results raise intriguing question about molecular underpinning ALAN-induced negative consequences brain functions. Further should focused links between performance, including role which could shed mechanism exposures lead consequences.

Artificial light at night advances avian reproductive physiology.

Artificial light at night is a rapidly increasing phenomenon and it is presumed to have global implications. Light at night has been associated with health problems in humans as a consequence of altered biological rhythms. Effects on wild animals have been less investigated, but light at night has often been assumed to affect seasonal cycles of urban dwellers. Using light loggers attached to fr...

Artificial Light at Night and Cancer: Global Study

Background: Artificial light at night (ALAN) has been linked to increased risk of cancers in body sites like the breast and colorectum. However exposure of ALAN as an environmental risk factor and its relation to cancers in humans has never been studied in detail. Objective: To explore the association of ALAN with all forms of cancers in 158 countries. Materials and Methods: An ecological study...

Artificial light at night causes diapause inhibition and sex-specific life history changes in a moth

Rapidly increasing levels of light pollution subject nocturnal organisms to major alterations of their habitat, the ecological consequences of which are largely unknown. Moths are well-known to be attracted to light at night, but effects of light on other aspects of moth ecology, such as larval development and life-history, remain unknown. Such effects may have important consequences for fitnes...

The Effect of Creating an Artificial Night On Physiological Changes in Preterm Infants

Introduction Preterm infants are exposed to irregular light for several weeks or months in the Neonatal intensive-care unit (NICU). This lack of maternal entrainment, the exposure to irregular extrauterine lighting and care in the nursery may contribute to the disturbances in body temperature, sleep and physiological changes that are commonly experienced by preterm infants. Materials and Method...

Artificial light at night causes an unexpected increase in oxalate in developing male songbirds

Artificial light at night (ALAN) is a widespread and increasing environmental pollutant with known negative impacts on animal physiology and development. Physiological effects could occur through sleep disruption and deprivation, but this is difficult to quantify, especially in small developing birds. Sleep loss can potentially be quantified by using oxalate, a biomarker for sleep debt in adult...
